:: Portmarnock Footbridge

Community input has played a key role in the final design of the Portmarnock footbridge and its exit near Connolly Primary School. The original concept, below left, featured a circular off-ramp, spiralling anti-clockwise to connect with the Fairway Circle footpath at the northern area of the school drop-off zone.

Original design and new concept plans of footbridge

Community Reference Group members, and teaching staff, were keen to move the exit ramp further south to help cyclists and pedestrians avoid the congested school parking zone. The new footbridge will now cross the freeway and spiral in a clockwise direction to meet Fairway Circle near the roundabout at the southern end of the school grounds. The new bridge is scheduled to open at the end of September 2007.
