A Stylish Addition

May 15, 2008

The noise walls will feature geometric shapes in colours chosen to represent the natural environment, creating a visual sensation that sets the theme for other structures and brings a sense of character to the area.

“Mindful of the 50 or so residents living nearby, the walls are built from durable materials that are designed to block as much traffi c noise as possible,” said Construction Manager – Structures, JJ van der Walt.

“The art on the noise walls also adds to the unique character of the area and will set the theme for other bridges and abutments being constructed as part of the project,” he said.

A second section, which shields homes north-west of Shenton Avenue heading towards Moore Drive, is also being completed with an anti-graffi ti coating to help protect the walls from vandalism.

The noise walls consist of concrete posts, connected by pre-cast concrete panels. They have been designed using sophisticated noise modelling to provide maximum noise buffering for surrounding homes.

The next installation of noise walls, north east of Moore Drive up to Currambine station, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the beginning of July 2008.
