:: Students get waterwise

Connolly Primary School now displays a green grandeur of native Western Grass Trees in the school's new waterwise garden, which was opened by Year 7 students at a colourful ceremony earlier this month.

The established trees were salvaged from the new freeway alignment and donated to the school where a resident gardener added kangaroo paws in the school’s colours of burgundy and lemon. Other waterwise plants were gifted to the school by Joondalup MLA Tony O'Gorman to celebrate National Tree Day. A Waterwise Grant helped pay for reticulation, soil and additional plants while community members lent a hand to finish landscaping and repaint the pre-primary wall near the corner of Fairway Circle and Portmarnock Circuit.

Niamh Collins and Tyson Evans from Year 7A number of trees donated by Macmahon were sold to raise funds for future environmental projects on the school grounds.

Meanwhile, Connolly students have been working alongside the Mitchell Freeway team to help beautify their local community. In addition to raising native seedlings for landscaping and revegetation works at the end of the project, the students are currently infill planting to improve a significant area of bush near Shenton Avenue.
