The Portmarnock footbridge is on track to open in September. The concrete foundations and ramps are in place with the main span scheduled for completion this month.
The bridge will provide a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the freeway between Fairway Circle, Connolly, and Winton Road in the Joondalup industrial estate.
The community has played a key role in the fi nal design of the footbridge, helping to preserve remnant bushland and positioning the off-ramp to ensure a safe interface with Connolly Primary School.
The new landmark will cross the freeway and spiral in a clockwise direction to meet Fairway Circle near the roundabout at the southern end of the school grounds. The original design featured a circular off-ramp, spiralling anti-clockwise to connect with the Fairway Circle footpath at the northern area of the school drop-off zone.
